Help Shape the Future of Education in Wisconsin!

WHS Press wants your input on Wisconsin: Our State, Our Story (2nd edition)!

WHS Press is recruiting a small group of teachers who currently use the 2nd edition of Wisconsin: Our State, Our Story in their classrooms to provide expert feedback. Participants will be asked to complete a full review of the textbook (instructions will be provided to confirmed participants), fill out a short survey, and participate in a 30-minute one-on-one Zoom interview.

Teachers who fulfill all of the above requirements will receive a $500 honorarium. Work will begin this July, and the deadline for feedback is Friday, August 12. We estimate you’ll need to spend 15 hours on this project to complete all of the requirements.

If interested, please contact our senior editor of K-12 publications, Maria Parrott-Ryan, at the email below. Include your name, the name of your school, your school district, and the number of years you’ve been using our textbook. Please note that not all applicants will be chosen; we will select participants based on several factors.

Discover Asian American History with Modern Jungles
Designed for secondary classrooms grades 6-12 and co-created with the author, the Modern Jungles education materials will deepen your students' appreciation for and understanding of the Hmong immigration experience. Built on the inquiry framework of "Thinking Like A Historian," these materials push students to engage with the text by relating young Pao Lor's experiences to their own lives, exploring not just the differences of immigrant and refugee cultures but the commonalities we all share as human beings.

Discover Jewish American History with Remember the Holocaust
This moving documentary volume brings together fourteen interviews of Holocaust survivors who later settled in Wisconsin. By studying select oral histories from our website and the text, students both learn about the past and how to document it themselves.

Use these powerful oral history resources to teach the Holocaust in your classroom. Designed for grades 6-8 and 9-12.

Tell us about yourself: I'm Alli Karrels, Site Director at the Wade House Historic site in Greenbush, WI. Proud owner of a black cat named Binx,  who attended almost all WHS zoom meetings during the pandemic and continues to make regular appearances.

What do you do? I coordinate our team members, lead various site projects and initiatives, and welcome guests to our historic site experience.

What are you excited about for the upcoming season? This season we've developed historic character cards depicting the people that lived, worked, and traveled through Greenbush during its heyday. Learn about the people of the past and see the world through their eyes!

An Interview With Ellie Antoniewicz, Wisconsin Historical Museum

Tell us about yourself: My name is Ellie Antoniewicz and I am one of the Youth Experience Coordinators at the Wisconsin Historical Museum. I also have an adorable dog named Oliver!

What do you do? As Youth Experience Coordinator I primarily work on youth programming at the museum. My main focus is working with schools to plan museum field trips as well as planning and facilitating our summer camp program.

What are you excited about for the upcoming season? I am very excited to be returning to in-person summer camps this year after doing virtual camps for the past two years. Our summer camps consist of daily field trips to local organizations, so it will be great to get a chance to show campers all of the cool things that we have here in Madison once again!
